Slowing Down in Sorrento

After a week of jam-packed days and what we came to call "peezer feet" (i.e., tired painful "Grampeezy" feet!), we were ready to chill out. The Airbnb we rented in Sorrento was a small, plain studio apartment that left a bit to be desired for creature comforts and decent wifi, but it did have air conditioning. We enjoyed the cool air and did some laundry and journaling.
We did find probably our favorite croissants of the trip when we went out for breakfast at Bar Syrenuse. If only I could eat these croissants with Nutella every day... They were perfectly flaky and buttery with a tiny bit of a sweet glaze. Just add espresso.
After breakfast, we took a little mini-train tour around town. The cute little mini-train takes 20 or so people at a time on a tour of Sorrento, providing headphones to listen to the tour in your choice of language. Nice way to spend 45 minutes and learn a bit about the history, architecture, and trade of the area.
Val did a little swim at the Marina Picolo in the afternoon, and otherwise we just relaxed.
Later in the day, we visited Bar Delfino for dinner on a recommendation from friends. It is a really nice little restaurant on a pier west of the marinas, and we sat at a water-side table overlooking the Bay of Naples. We had a beautiful view of Mt. Vesuvius to the northeast and then the city of Naples lighting up across the water after sunset. It was romantic, relaxing, and delicious, with amazing local seafood. Highly recommend!

The Day's Tips
Sorrento is touristy, but not overwhelmingly crowded. The shops sell abundant quantities of Italian leather goods (very nice!) and local lemon items (everything from soap to candy to limoncello) and lemon-shaped items (Christmas ornaments, bottles, you name it). IF YOU BUY LIMONCELLO: don’t think that you are going to ship it back to the U.S. There is a law about shipping alcohol there, and anything with an alcohol content higher than wine is not allowed. We didn’t know this and ended up having to carry 6 bottles around on our backs for the next month to bring home to friends.
The Day's Favorites
Cal: Bar Delfino was a great experience--I had a gorgeous view of the water and my wife looked good too!
Val: Bar Syrenuse in Sorrento has the best croissants, hands down! Just add Nutella for a bite of heaven.
